Beat the Winter Blues

Waking up at 6am, the sky dark, the frost thick.... Let's crack out the violins now because nobody's going to be doing anything other than feeling sorry for themselves as they haul their asses out of bed for that early morning run. In the bleak depths of winter.

OR, you can haul your sorry ass out of bed and after a sufficient amount of caffeine, you can get your kicks on and enjoy the crispy morning air whilst you pound the pavements!

Do I hear you chanting "how"?! Well amigos, read on!

These are the things that are booting me out of bed in the morning:

  • Ellie Goulding: Run Into The Light
This is a 30 Minute track made especially for you to run with, by Ellie herself. The steady beat leaves you to keep pace, while the songs are well known so you can bust out some notes while everyone else is asleep!

 ELLIE RUNS with Nike!
  • Get Funky: Crack out some colourful gear
I hate that stereotype we all tend to fall into during winter: THE DARK COLOUR TREND.... Ditch it! Treat yourself to some quirky patterned base layers and a new set of earmuffs and off you go! Bright colours are known to make you feel happier within yourself, so what have you got to lose?

  • Have a goal:
Like I said in my last post, me and my sister are doing a Santa Run, so why not do similar? Having something to aim for will also give you something to get up for! :)

  • Have an End Game Treat
After you achieve your goal (like my Santa Run) treat yourself: have a haircut, go to a spa or get that awesome pair of jeans you finally feel you deserve!

  • Find some fool to come with you:
Remember; you are NOT alone!! :P All of us runners are crazy-- we tend to get up at ridiculous o'clock and don't understand why people think we're weird after running 5 miles at 6am! ;) Someone will probably be mad enough to come with you! if not, then give us a wave-- you're sure to see us other crazies out running too! :D

So remember when those cold December mornings send doubt creeping in, blast them away with some frost beating motivators! :)
