It's that time of year again when people start itching to sign up for marathons and set new goals, ready for race season! So I have decided to get back into training and really dedicate some time to my fitness...
The Plan
Basically I want to increase my stamina and distance. I have never been a speed runner and am a happy 10 min miler but I would like to crack the 10k comfortably before Christmas... Partly because I want to prove that I can do it but also because I can then eat more Yorkshire puddings and steal the stash of Terry's Chocolate orange's without feeling guilty!! ;)
My plan (so cleverly named; The Plan) is to gradually increase my distance before testing out my 10k running skills, without wanting to keel over and be dragged to the finish line by the end of November!
Preparation
It's all in the prep!! With a move abroad in the works for me halfway through my training plan, I have to be able to keep track of which miles I'm running and when. I recommend drawing up a training plan with the runs you are doing on each day, rest days, pace runs and cross training. Here's a little snap of one I made up a few days ago for my 10k plan!
Training Begins Here.... |
Motivation
Without a doubt this part is the most difficult part of training. There will be days when you don't want to wake up early, you'll feel ill or like total crap. You may not want to run... Suck it up and get your training gear on! Lace up your trainers or get on your workout clothes, and half the battle is done! Crack out some badass tunes and promise yourself that if you do this run today, you will be a BAWSE and can celebrate by treating yourself to a lush coffee or sweet treat-- whatever rocks your world!
Lace up! |
Dedication
I may have mentioned a couple of days ago The Importance of Dedication but the fact of the matter is, the more you do it, the more you love it!!! And without putting in the effort you're never going to get the results you want! So whether it's raining, snowing or sweltering hot... Whether you're tired, with a sore throat and aching muscles... Put on you kit and get to it because training waits for no man! If you want be the best you have to train better, harder, stronger, faster! (Don't laugh at the cliché!) And it's true; dedicate yourself to something wholly and you will become the best you can possibly be!
I went out for my first training run and it rained for most of it! |
Last Word...
You can catch me pounding the streets until I move to France where I will take the road over the pond.. I will also be training here at the Dojo in Lyon in order to become a Green Belt at Shotokan Karate!
Dojo in Lyon!! |
You can do anything you want to if you put your mind to it and work hard!! :D
